Kingstown, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, August 7, 2007 (NEMO) - Key persons who will be involved in the coordination of response in the event that St.Vincent and the Grenadines is impacted by hazards or adverse events will be trained in Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Management during a three day workshop slated for Wednesday 8th –Friday 10th August , 2007. The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Management Training will be conducted by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA), through funding from the Government of South Africa.
Director, NEMO, Howie Prince says the main objective of the workshop is “to provide the members of staff of NEMO, Sub-Committees of NEMO and EOC volunteers with the necessary skills and training to perform their duties within the EOC in the event that it is activated due to impending hazards or adverse events”.
Director, Disaster Management Coordination Agency, Montserrat, Captain Horatio Tuitt will be the chief facilitator for the training workshop. The workshop will be held in NEMO’s conference room at its Old Montrose Headquarters and begins at 8:30a.m each day.
Prince indicated that although there will not be an official opening ceremony, the media are invited to view simulation and closing exercises on Friday 10th August, 2007.
