NEMO & USAID/COTS Host Emergency Disaster Planning Training Workshops

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, April 23, 2008 (NEMO) - Representatives from the Public, Private and Financial Sectors were given the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge in developing Disaster Plans for their Organizations during three Emergency/Disaster Planning Workshops held on the 26th, 27th and 28th  March, 2008.

The Emergency/Disaster Planning Workshops were organized by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) in collaboration with the Caribbean Open Trade Support (COTS) Programme, through funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office in Barbados.

 The main objectives of the Workshops were to outline the basic procedures for preparing Emergency/Disaster Plans for Businesses and Government Departments.

To promote a common understanding of the concepts, systems and procedures of Emergency/Disaster Recovery Planning and to discus and clarify the inter-relationship between National Emergency/Disaster Planning Arrangements and Non-governmental Emergency/Disaster Recovery Arrangements.

Deputy Director of NEMO, Michelle Forbes stated that persons from Government Departments, Private Sector and most of the Financial Institutions in the island were given the opportunity to learn to develop Emergency/Disaster Plans for their Organizations.

According to Forbes, the Workshop on Wednesday 26th March, 2008 specificallyFull Screen targeted civil servants from different Ministries and Departments. The Workshops on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th March, mainly targeted representatives from the Financial Institutions and the Private Sector. USAID/COTS Consultant Franklyn Michael facilitated the Workshop.
