The recent earthquakes that were felt throughout the British Virgin Islands originated in the Sombrero Seismic Zone, which is located between 18.5–19.0 north latitude, according to reports issued by the Puerto Rico Seismic Network.

BVI Governor Pearey chairs his first NDMC Meeting
BVI Governor David Pearey convened his first National Disaster Management Council (NDMC) meeting as Chairman on Monday June 19, 2006 at the Prospect Reef Hotel's Conference Room. The purpose of the meeting was to review the action points highlighted at the previous meeting and to receive national sub-committee reports on the level of preparedness of the Territory.

DDM conducts national simulation exercise
The Department of Disaster Management is conducting is a full-scale simulation exercise that involves a ferryboat incident and other scenarios which will will trigger a mass causality disaster in which all response agencies will be called out to test their response capabilities. This exercise will take place tomorrow Saturday 12th November 2005 on Virgin Gorda.
