IMF approves emergency assistance for Dominica
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will give the Dominican government US$3.3 million in emergency assistance to help it deal with the effects of Hurricane Dean which caused extensive damage to the island in August last year.

Government of Dominica expresses sadness to United States following passage of Hurricane Katrina
The Government of Dominica, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Labour has sent a diplomatic note to the United States Government and the Governors of the States of Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, through its Embassy in Barbados, expressing deep sadness at the widespread loss of life in the United States, following the passage of Hurricane Katrina.

Earthquake north of Dominica
Another earthquake has shook Dominica and surrounding islands on Valentines Day. According to the Seismic Research Unit at the St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies, the tremor measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale occured at 2:05 pm just north of Dominica. The earthquake was felt as far south as Saint Lucia where the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) reported it in four areas - including in the capital Castries.

Dominica's boiling lake stops boiling
The Seismic Research Unit is to investigate changes in the "boiling lake" in Dominica which stopped boiling in late December 2004. It's the fifth time since 1900 that the lake stopped boiling and the Forestry and Wildlife Division of Dominica has indicated that it is going through a dray/wet phase.

Earthquake damage in Dominica estimated at US$19 Million
The recent earthquake in Dominica and accompanying heavy rainfall has left the country with damage estimated at US$19 million.This estimate was compiled by the Ministries of Finance and Planning and Communications, Works and Housing and also take into account technical reports from teams of engineers made available through CDERA and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
