Disaster Management took a significant step forward when on their own initiative the Canaries Disaster Committee presented the Director NEMO with a Draft Disaster Plan for the district for Cricket World Cup 2007.

Using the Mass Events Guidelines the committee formulated a simple yet comprehensive strategy for the nervous events about to unfold in the communities of Canaries during CWC.

"The plan addresses everything from electrocution to drowning" Dawn French, Director NEMO gushed. "It was totally unexpected and I'm so proud of the Team."

In recent years disaster management has developed in a number of what may be considered none traditional areas.  Presently the Mass Events Guidelines is still at the Government of Saint Lucia web site for comment as the NEMO team meet with organizers to implement what are still draft recommendations.

NEMO also has an aggressive thrust in the Public, Private, Religious and NGO Sectors for all agencies to have a Continuity of Operations Plan; it is because of this program that NEMO has collaborated with the Bureau of Standards and the Ministry of Tourism to certify all facilities to be used as an accommodation.

But the highlight to date for the planning for CWC 2007 has been the Canaries CWC Disaster Plan.

"Operational Orders are always issued by Headquarters to the Committees," the Director Continued, "but with this development all committees shall now be asked to produce a similar plan."
