Earthquake in the Gulf of Paria, Trinidad

St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, February 13, 2008 (Seismic Research Unit, UWI) - On Wednesday afternoon 13th February at 4:06pm local time, an earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Paria, Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 10.32°N 62.26°W. The event was reported as felt widely in Trinidad including Chagaramas, Diego Martin, St. James, Barataria, Port of Spain, San Juan, Santa Cruz, Maracas Valley, St. Augustine, Tacarigua and San Fernando. There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
 
The picture to the right shows the location of the earthquake. The focal
depth was approximately 4 km. The preliminary magnitude is 4.7. Please note that these results are preliminary and may vary slightly when additional data is processed.
