Bridgetown, Barbados July 16, 2008 (CDERA) - The Meteorological Services of Barbados, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia have issued severe weather advisories for a fast moving tropical wave that is approaching the Windward Islands.   The system is expected to bring gusty winds,  heavy rains with possible flooding and landslides to the Windward Islands during the next day or so.

As at 2.00pm EDT the system remained well organized and was located 200 miles East of the Windward Islands. An air force reserve reconnaissance aircraft is currently investigating this area to determine if a tropical depression has formed.

The CDERA Coordinating Unit has been in contact with the National Disaster Offices of the threatened states and has been advised that the situation is being monitored and local contingency measures are being put in place.

CDERA CU will continue follow the progress of the system and  provide updates should this become necessary.
