Bridgetown, Barbados Friday 12, 2010 ( CXC, CDEMA) - Members of staff of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) on Friday 12th February presented a cheque for BDS$6000.00 to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

Mildred Daniel of CXC presents cheque to Elizabeth Riley Deputy Executive Director (ag) of CDEMA. Witnessing the presentation are Dr Didacus Jules (L), CXC Registrar and Anderson Marshall(R), Head of Corporate Services and other CXC Staff
The cheque was presented by Mrs Mildren Daniel, a Records Supervisor at CXC to Mrs Elizabeth Riley, Deputy Executive Director (Acting) of CDEMA.

The funds were raised by members of CXC staff over a two-week period through individual donations.

Dr Didacus Jules, CXC Registrar, who witnessed the presentation, said “the funds were collected from members of CXC staff who wanted to express their solidarity with our Haitian brothers and sisters in their time of need.”

The CXC Registrar told Mrs Riley that “while this is a moderate amount, we know it will make a contribution to CDEMA’s efforts in Haiti.”

In responding to the donation, Mrs Riley said “the funds will go to support the coordinated efforts of CARICOM in Haiti.”

“It is a tangible demonstration of CXC, not just as a regional institution, but of its staff’s humanitarian attitude in a time of need,” Mrs Riley added. “We were very happy when we  heard that CXC staff wanted to make a contribution.”
