Remarks given at the CDERA/United States Government Signing Ceremony on agreement in support of the Tsunami and Coastal Hazards Warning System

The official signing ceremony on the Agreement for the provision of a United States Government grant of US$475,200 to support the  strengthening  and empowering  coastal communities in the Caribbean region to prepare for and respond to tsunamis and coastal hazards was held at the CDERA Coordinating Unit in Barbados on September 26, 2007.

This two year project is financed through the United States Agency for International Development and the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and will be implemented by CDERA in conjunction with the Seismic Research Unit of the University of the West Indies, the National Meteorological Offices and the Coastal Zone Management Agencies in CDERA Participating States.

The Agreement was signed by the Chairman of the CDERA Council, Dale Marshall, and United States Ambassador Mary Ourisman.
