St. Georges, Grenada, May 22, 2006 (National Disaster Management Agency) - Hermitage Government School dethroned rivals Telescope Primary to win this year’s national primary school quiz on disaster awareness. Hermitage Government clinched a tie breaker against Telescope after both schools finished on 120 points each after five rounds of questioning. It was sweet revenge for the Hermitage school students who still harbour memories of losing by a point to Telescope, last years winners.
St.John’s R.C secured third spot in the six-school finals. However, there was another tie breaker this time for the 4th and 5th positions after Dover Government of Carriacou and Alpha Junior finished on 105 points. Alpha Junior secured their third spot by edging out Dover after five rounds into an exciting tie breaker. The Sixth school in the finals, St. Dominics did not show-up.
The annual primary school quiz, organized by the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) is designed to test students knowledge in five areas, earthquake, Hurricane, Volcano, Floods, and a General category.
For the first time in the 7 year history of the quiz, a championship trophy, sponsored by the Grenada Electricity Company (GRENLEC) was presented to the winning school. The other finalists received plaques sponsored by Bryden and Minors and L.A.Purcell.
