St. George's Grenada, June 6, 2007 (NaDMA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) on Sunday staged what by all accounts appeared to have been another successful round the island motorcade.
The motorcade, one of the activities of Disaster Awareness Week, was also timed to coincide with the start of the Hurricane season.
Apart from NaDMA officials, the Red Cross, the ambulance service, safety patrol, the Bikers club and representatives from some of the district committees also participated.
The District Disaster Committee for St. Andrew’s North West led by Coordinator Laurina Wauldron came out in its numbers.
The motorcade started mid-morning on the Port Highway, crawling up the western wide of the country with a lunch stop in Grenville before heading back into St.George’s via the St. David’s route.
Preparedness messages for Disasters in General and Hurricanes in particular blared from the speakers of a DJ on a moving truck.
Stops to promote these messages were made in Gouyave , Victoria, Sauteurs and St.David’s while villagers along the route were encouraged to make preparations in the event that a Hurricane were to hit.
Messages on the motorcade also brought out the fact that an active season has been predicted increasing the potential for Hurricanes to make landfall.
The motorcade also made some brief stops to greet members of district committees who attended church as part of Disaster Awareness week.
In the only incident, a young boy sustained minor injuries after falling of the back of a bike ridden by his father approaching Marigot.
