St. George's Grenada, June 19, 2007 (NaDMA) - Paraclete Government School has recaptured the title of champion school of the annual primary school quiz on Disaster Management.

It was by all accounts the tightest battle ever in a final of the competition last week.

Three schools- St. Johns Anglican, Paraclete Government and Corinth Government each scored 22 and a half points in round three on flooding.

Again, in the final round on Hurricane, Paraclete Government, St. Patrick’s Anglican and Corinth Government ended on 35 points each.

But the drama was only beginning.

After five rounds when totals were tabulated there was a tie.

Paraclete Government and St. Johns Anglican topped the points table on 122 and a half points each.

A tie breaker was needed.

Tie breaker first round and second round were deadlocked.

And then at the third tie breaker question Paraclete rose to the occasion on home turf answering correctly   to recapture the title it won about three years ago.

“I am really really overwhelmed with what I have witnessed” declared NaDMA Coordinator Sylvan McIntyre.

“We went into triple overtime.  And at the end it was still difficult to come. All of those young persons are winners in their own right”.

Paraclete finished on 152 and a half points.

“We have a weekly general knowledge competition at school so it is very easy for us to identify our quizzers”said Principal Evelyn Fredericks.

“We would have selected them and continue our training on a daily basis” he added.
St.John’s Anglican was second

St. John’s Anglican finished on 142 and a half points. St.Patricks Anglican was next on 120 points; Corinth Government scored 112 and a half.

Carriacou’s Dover government totaled 95 and  Morne Jaloux RC, who finished the opening general knowledge round with the most points, ended in the celler position on 92 and a half.

Quiz coordinator Valerie Phillips says support from principals and teachers made a major difference.

“We have had 40 schools participating in the competition this year which was an increase over the years. I realized that each of the principals, and teachers who I have come in contact with   who have participated in the competition they realized the importance of disaster management and the importance of the children knowing some of the preparedness measures that they have to be a part of in disaster management”.

The national Primary school quiz on disaster management was organized by NaDMA and was part of disaster awareness week which was observed last week.
