Fire aboard cruise ship - Jamaica

Kingston, Jamaica March 23, 2006 (ODPEM)- The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management has been advised that a fire broke out early this morning aboard the Star Princess Cruise on its way to Montego Bay, Jamaica. One person has been reported dead and others injured as a result of smoke inhalation.
The ship is currently coming into Port and the fire is extinguished with the situation currently under control. All emergency services have been activated and are responding. The National Emergency Operations Center in Kingston, is currently activated at level one and supporting the response.
