Brades, Montserrat, April 3, 2008, (DMCA) - In light of the significant weather advisory issued by both the Antigua Meteorological Services and the Gerald’s Airport Meteorological Office, the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) is urging residents to be vigilant.
The advisory speaks of very heavy rain that will fall in a short time period which can lead to flash flooding and landslides, depending on the local terrain.
The Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) is advising residents living in vulnerable areas to take precaution against flash flooding and landslides that may stem from the line of showers.
These include low-lying areas such as Little Bay, Carr’s Bay and Old Road Bay. Residents living in these areas are asked to be ready to take quick action if flooding is observed. Residents living in Isles Bay should also not attempt to cross the Belham River during the period in question because of the significant showers being experienced.
Those residents living in areas susceptible to landslides should also pay careful attention to the advisory because increase rainfall could trigger major landslides.
All residents are asked to continue to monitor Radio Montserrat for updates/advisories from the Gerald’s Airport Meteorological Office.
