4.0 Earthquake felt in the Virgin Islands Vicinity

Tortola, Friday January 13th, 2006 - A minor earthquake measuring a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale was felt in some areas of Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands at 12:10am.   The Puerto Rico Seismic Research Unit instruments located the epicenter of the earthquake at 18.69-north latitude and 65.04-west longitude, or 134 km east north east of San Juan Puerto Rico. The dept of the earthquake was 54.5 kilometers.  The maximum intensity was recorded as V on the Modified Mercalli Scale in Puerto Rico.

At the time of generating this news release no damage has been reported
