UWI SRU and IPG Paris secure Montserrat Volcano Observatory contract
For the next five years the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) will be jointly managed by the UWI Seismic Research Unit (SRU) and the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP), bringing the Caribbean’s only currently erupting volcano back under the watch of regional scientists. This decision is potentially beneficial to Montserratians and provides significant opportunities for advancing geoscience research in the region.

Seismic monitoring agencies share data
Seismic monitoring agencies in the Caribbean Basin have agreed, in principle, to share and contribute data to a regional warning centre, a critical step towards making a regional tsunami warning system (TWS) a reality. The decision was an important outcome of the 2nd meeting of the Regional Seismic Network Operators (RSNO2) recently held on the University of the West Indies' St. Augustine campus in Trinidad.

Earthquake northeast of Saint Lucia
Early on Thursday morning 13th September at 2:37 a.m. local time, an earthquake occurred northeast of Saint Lucia. The preliminary location for the event is 14.28°N 60.41°W. The event was reported widely felt in Saint Lucia and St. Vincent.
